Never Tear Us Apart is a short from genre director Sid Zanforlin, and it also serves as a proof-of-concept for his first feature length film. With that considered, you can certainly see the potential that this short has in the future. I hold high hopes for this as a feature.

Directed by Sid Zanforlin.

Starring Matt Keyes, Alex Weiner, James Rae, Leigh Ann Taylor and Mark Krupa.

“Two friends try to survive an encounter with a couple of back-wood cannibals.”

As only a 6 minute long short, Never Tear Us Apart has a certain charm to it. It’s well crafted, seamlessly edited and provides a strong musical composition to assist as the story unfolds.

The practical and special effects were excellently highlighted and used to enhance certain moments during the progression of the short. Limbs seen through the grimy window of the cabin as Eileen prepares a meal looked oddly realistic.

I was pleasantly surprised at the acting, with there being a slight comedy element to the short, the campy yet creepy nature of the cannibal family (Leigh Ann Taylor and James Rae) worked in its favour. There seemed to be an aspect of classic 70’s horror to the way their characters were considered and written, which I noticed as they began pursuing the lead characters (Matt Keyes and Alex Weiner.)

As for the twist? I can safely say I didn’t see that coming!

I recommend you check out Never Tear Us Apart for a fun and creative take on the ‘back-wood’ cannibal idea for some laughs, and some creative gore!
